When Ralph Hamelmann launched SCREWW in 2003, it was out of boredom. He explains, "I wanted to let off some steam one night, but at that point, I had lost interest in the club scene. So I decided to create a party for genuine people who like a variety of music.'"

After a year and a half at The Winchester Pub (in Cabbagetown), SCREWW found a new home at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre and stayed there for almost three years before moving to Goodhandy's in May, 2008.

Apart from his 20 years experience as a volunteer facilitator, coordinator, and counsellor in the LGBTT community, Ralph has worked in the queer media: 10% QTV, The Q Files (a Citytv production), and (Toronto's) Out Magazine. His cartoon strip For Warped Minds Only had a three-year run in Xtra (1988-91).

Because of the depth of his exposure to the queer community, Ralph is passionate about making SCREWW an inclusive space for everyone. To that end, he has rolled out the red carpet for Pride Toronto, the 519 Community Centre, ACT, and countless other LGBTT organizations.

In 1991, Ralph's cartoon For Warped Minds Only reached new heights and was syndicated. At this time, it began appearing in the Toronto Sun, Calgary Herald, and Eye Weekly. In 1994, he authored and illustrated a comic book anthology of his work which was sold across North America.

Ralph has done in-house communications for numerous charities including the National Ballet School, St. George's Society, The Hearing Foundation of Canada, and the University of Toronto. He was Editor-in-Chief of Inq Magazine - a holistic health magazine with contributors such as Dr. David Suzuki.

In 1999, he received the Galaxi Award for Cutting Edge, a documentary-style television series he created, produced, and hosted.

Ralph currently teaches communications at George Brown College on a part-time basis, and works with people having disabilities. In December, 2006, George Brown presented Ralph with the prestigious Award For Teaching Excellence. He co-writes the daily horoscope in 24 Hours.
